How to Organize Work Placement Observations?

Both the work placement supervisor and the work placement mentor can observe the students during their work placement. How often this happens, depends on various factors (such as the year of study, the characteristics of the work placement, the experience the students have with work placements, the number of students). The number of observations usually decreases as the students build up experience with work placements.

Based on an observation, the work placement supervisor or work placement mentor can provide feedback on, among other elements:

  • the student's attitude;
  • the student's knowlegde;
  • the student's skills;
  • the student's need for supervision;
  • the student's growth throughout the work placement;
  • the student's commitment;
  • the student's organization skills;
  • the student's inquisitiveness.
